It’s Tuesday and you know what time it is! It’s time for Inside Sports with The Sports General, where I run the sports.
The NFL season has come to a close and the game that everyone was talking about going into the weekend was the Cowboys and Giants game. These two teams met in New York for the NFC East title and the right to go to the playoffs. Well, as far as I saw, the Giants wanted the game more. They came out and took it to the Cowboys and sent them back to Dallas disappointed.
The Giants are a dangerous team heading into the playoffs and they have the weapons to potentially win the Lombardi Trophy. Whether they put it all together or not remains to be seen. As for the Cowboys, their season ends again with disappointment and many questions arise as to what needs to happen to take this team to the next level. From the outside looking in, seems like they need a new secondary, another inside linebacker to pair with Sean Lee, and another pass-rusher to go with All-Pro DeMarcus Ware.
Speaking of the NFL playoffs, there seems to be some interesting matchups out there for Wild Card weekend. The most interesting matchup to me is the Pittsburgh Steelers versus the Denver Broncos. But the matchup isn’t the reason that I am interested in this game. I’m interested to see if Steelers S Ryan Clark tries to play in Denver.
Clark got very sick the last time he played in Denver in 2007. He ended up having to have his spleen and gall bladder removed to save his life due to the reaction he had from a sickle-cell trait he has. The trait that maybe 1% of people with sickle-cell have, causes oxygen to not be able to get to your spleen in times of physical exertion at high altitudes. Clark also lost 30 pounds as well as a result of this incident. He has since not played in the last two games that have been in Denver. If I’m Clark, there is no way that I play in this game. He is said to be considering it, but life is more important than a game and I hope he makes the right decision to not play in this game.
Speaking of decisions, Memphis native and High School All-American Jarnell Stokes has decided to take his talents to the University of Tennessee to play for the Volunteers. He will be playing for them in 2012, but not in the fall. Stokes actually will be eligible to play when he starts the spring semester at Tennessee in 2012. That’s right; the freshman will be on the court this season.
Stokes is a top player in the country and he decided to graduate early to be able to do this and make this unprecedented move. I think that this move will help the Vols immediately, but that’s not to say that there will not be an adjustment period for him. After all, college isn’t just about athletics; it’s about education as well. It should be interesting to see how he makes the adjustment from high school to college so quickly. I wish Stokes nothing but good luck and look forward to seeing this young man take his talents to the next level of competition.
The last and final thing I want to talk about this week disturbs me. This past weekend, Michael Jordan re-released the Jordan XI Concord shoes. What followed was pure insanity. People were lining up across the country for stores to open up so they could have a chance to get these shoes. Worse, there were reports of rioting, fights and arrests as people were losing their minds over these shoes.
The question I want to ask people is are these shoes really worth fighting over? Really folks, is it going to be life or death if you don’t get these shoes? I personally never got into the craze of Jordan shoes enough to where I’m going to fight or riot to get them. If the shoes aren’t there for you to get, then they aren’t there for you to get, plain and simple. I wonder if folks have the same passion for these shoes as they do for other things in their lives. All the people that got into these fights need to take a long look at themselves and the situation and ask themselves if it was really worth it.
This concludes another week of Sports with The General. Thanks for all who have read today and if you have any sports questions or need any sports info, please feel free to hit me up on Twitter(@General_MP).

I agree that the Giants have the weapons to go all the way and they are playing well at the right time. As for the shoes that is plain “sad” and I realize when random interviews are done there’s no control but this type of message is one we don’t need in our community:

Great Info Giants are a Gud Team that’s about it not Great or even Gud enough to win on the road again gud luck Eli NFC Real Tough this Year Cowboys was a team and a division Giants shouldve been raped up before week17 opens sum eyes Clark that’s a shame Trust God even tho Medical Staff make tha Ruling Jordans seriously why who when and what for its2012 Jordans are classic but aren’t they just shoes kids these days let’s start fighting for our neighborhoods education for our families to make it for a Dream Fight Design your own shoes and make em classics
Will Stokes be eligible for the NBA draft after this season then?? I would think not but just a thought. Also, Jordans ain’t hard no more like in the 90′s, when we grew up.. Lastly, its tough being a Cowboy fan right now, but we’re soft and we don’t deserve to be in the playoffs. Giants tougher mentally and play with more heart..
That’s a good question about Stokes. I believe that Stokes actually will be eligible, but that he will not leave school. Heck, he just got there.
According to reports, Ryan Clark won’t play on Sunday. I don’t think he should either. Life is more important than football. The Giants scare me too. I think they beat Atlanta on Sunday and could give Green Bay a mighty scare. Good stuff.
The stuff with the Jordan sneakers is a shame. I saw the lines too, and had no idea what was going on. The violence and money spent on these sneakers are very disappointing to hear about.
My Giants live to see another week but we still have a long way to go! If we want to continue to be successful then we must be able to produce BEFORE the pressure gets put on.
As for the J’s an 18yr old boy was actually stabbed & killed while in line. It’s absolutely ridiculous that this is the type of materialistic world we are living in.
The Giants have the weapons offensively, can their secondary protect the pass? Lots of times their safeties have blown coverages from time to time. Can’t do that with the likes of Matt Ryan and Julio Jones. This’ll be a good one.
Hey Kareem, if the Giants front four produces pressure like they have, that covers up for deficiencies in pass coverage. Basically, Matt Ryan can’t find receivers if he’s looking more at the rush and the sky then who’s open.
